The One in Eleven Appeal: How Can You Help?

This Friday finally sees the official launch of the Mid Cheshire Hospitals Charity's (MCHC) One in Eleven Appeal.

The aim of the appeal is to raise a million pounds for a new neonatal unit at Leighton hospital in Crewe, which will serve the whole Mid Cheshire Hospitals area. In addition to our usual activities, Ray of Hope has pledged to help raise funds for the One in Eleven Appeal over the next two years. Even though the appeal hasn't even officially launched yet, Ray of Hope has already contributed more than £15,000, thanks to fantastic events and donations from our supporters.

If you'd like more information about the One in Eleven Appeal, why we need a new neonatal unit, and Ray of Hope's role, take a look here

How can you help?

There are lots of ways to get involved, and every single pound will help. You don't have to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, run a marathon, or donate an enormous amount - but of course, if you want to, that would be great!

Donate

If you'd like to make a donation, you can do so in a matter of seconds. You can use Ray of Hope's JustGiving page or you can text mchc11 followed by the amount you'd like to donate (for example mchc11 £5) to 70070. Texts are free on all networks, and the maximum donation you can make in one text is £10.

Shop

If you shop in Sandbach or Crewe, you can give the appeal a boost while you're there. Until the end of April, Waitrose in Sandbach has the One in Eleven Appeal as one of their 'Community Matters' charities, so you can help raise funds simply by popping your green tokens in the slot. Asda in Crewe is also currently collecting for the appeal.

Events

If you're feeling energetic, how about challenging yourself by taking part in an event and raising funds for the appeal through sponsorship? If you're feeling sloth-like, you can sponsor someone else instead! Shavington dad Jon Parton is competing in the Go Green Cheshire Triathlon in Nantwich on May 27 2012. You can sit back with a nice cup of tea and raise funds for the appeal by supporting him www.justgiving.com/1in11appealmchct while he does all the hard work!

If you've got children and you've been meaning to have a clear-out of all that baby and toddler stuff you've got stashed away in the attic, here's your opportunity. Book a stall for the One in Eleven Baby to Primary Sale at Crewe's Oakley Centre, which will be held on May 20 2012 from 10:30 to 13:30. It's £15 to book stall, and every penny of that goes to the One in Eleven Appeal. Then you get to keep the profits you make! Unless you'd like to donate them, of course. Either way, you get to get rid of all that stuff you've been hoarding and make some money for a fantastic cause at the same time.

If you're organising an event for the One in Eleven Appeal, or raising money by sponsorship, let us know so we can spread the word. The official launch event for the One in Eleven Appeal is at The Hunters' Lodge, Crewe on April 27 2012.  There'll be a presentation, buffet and music, and tickets are free. Call 01270 273248 for tickets or more information.

Get in touch with us on Facebook or Twitter and let us know what you're up to for the One in Eleven Appeal!

Mother's Pride

I am very proud of my daughter, Nicola, who last night won an Achievement Award from MCHFT for her voluntary work providing the parents of babies born asleep with very precious memories.

From the awards programme booklet:

"Nicola Cooper is an accredited hospital volunteer and a professional photographer who provides her time and expertise freely, mostly at short notice, to women and their families who have experienced a pregnancy loss at Mid Cheshire's Maternity Unit. Sadly some babies die before or shortly after birth taking away the hopes and dreams of their family's future: it is a very confusing and traumatic time when parents are required to make difficult decisions. With her camera, Nicola sensitively and unobtrusively captures precious moments and memories of the short time that the families have with their babies. By providing them with the photographs, families have something to cherish and validate their parenthood long after the funeral. Nicola is utterly selfless, a consummate professional and is valued and praised by every family with which she has worked."
